A baby quilt for Gabe

Finally got started on a quilt for Gabe, made by me! The entire pregnancy went by and I didn’t sew a stitch of a quilt for him… but hopefully I’ll get this start finished up this week.

Gabe's Quilt

Oh design wall, where would I be without you? I don’t know how quilters work without one! They are so worth the wall space they take up…

Today Gabe is 13 days old and I feel like things are starting to settle down! I’m managing to get into the sewing room a little and I know that with a bit more time I’ll find myself there more and more. That makes me very happy as I got very little sewing done over the past few months. The combo of being pregnant and having the full time job just wiped me out too much. (By the way,  the best part of having Gabe other than Gabe himself?? I’m not pregnant anymore! Hurray! So great to feel more like myself in my body again.)

I got the next round of the Traveling Quilts bee done yesterday. This one is for Ashley. I received this pieced panel from Amber:

Ashley wants the focus of her quilt to be improv piecing, but I thought there was a need for it to breath some… So I added some borders, one of which included a bit of improv-ing in it.

Hope Ashley likes the direction I’ve gone in!

Well this was going to be a post about our nursery for our soon to arrive son, but on Tuesday night, things all started happening and he arrived on Wednesday! A couple of weeks early, but big and happy and health. 7 lbs, 15 oz and 20 inches of boy! We’ve named him Gabriel David and we’ll call him Gabe.

Pretty much no question that he’s the best thing I’ve made so far!!

Now on to some photos of the nursery that I took on Tuesday, just hours before I went into labor. It’s a small room, so it’s hard to photograph but we’ve had a great time putting it together.

The quilt you see here was made by my friend Liz Harvatine and it’s so beautiful… It works perfectly in the room and we’re thrilled to have it.

Next amazing quilt in the room is made by Jacquie Gering and boy do I love it.

Not to worry – there will be a post in the future showing more detailed shots of all of the handmade goods this kid is lucky enough to have received. He is seriously one lucky lil’ guy!

He’s so lucky that these little feet…

…already have their first pair of Cons!

So now that he’s here… I’ll really need to find the time to get started on making him a quilt!
